Microsoft’s Power Platform Release Wave 2 (October 2025 – March 2026) is now rolling out to production environments. This release brings a significant shift toward AI-native development and autonomous agents, with hundreds of new capabilities that will transform how we deliver and support solutions for our clients.
The Factor’s Application Operations (App-Ops) team helps clients every day to keep their applications, environments, and platforms running seamlessly, resolving issues swiftly, monitoring proactively, and enabling new value at every turn.
Our App-Ops team actively monitors and evaluates preview releases and feature announcements well before they reach production. This forward-looking approach ensures we’re prepared—not reactive—when new capabilities arrive. By testing features during early access periods and assessing their impact on existing systems, we can provide clients with strategic guidance, proactive recommendations, and seamless transitions rather than scrambling to respond after changes are already live.
This deliberate focus on Wave Release planning allows our team to maximize the time we spend adding proactive value—whether that’s optimizing existing solutions, implementing new capabilities that align with business goals, or future-proofing architectures. The result? Our clients stay ahead of the curve and extract maximum value from their Microsoft Power Platform investment.
As our clients are increasingly adopting AI agents and autonomous workflows, managing these intelligent systems at scale becomes critical. The new unified governance hub consolidates management of AI agents, agent-driven apps, and automated workflows across the entire Microsoft ecosystem. This gives us centralised visibility and control, with proactive alerts that flag potential risks before they impact business processes.
For government and enterprise clients with strict compliance requirements, this feature provides the granular controls needed to differentiate between citizen developer experiments and production-grade enterprise applications – all while maintaining security by default.
One of our team’s biggest time-sinks is crafting and debugging complex expressions in Power Automate flows. The new Copilot Expression Builder changes the game by allowing makers to describe what they need in plain English, and Copilot generates the expression syntax automatically.
This dramatically reduces the technical barrier for citizen developers while speeding up our own development work. When combined with the real-time flow debugging capabilities also coming in Wave 2, troubleshooting and building flows becomes significantly more efficient.
For clients running customer – facing portals on Power Pages, security is paramount. The new security agents use AI to monitor websites in real-time for threats like DDoS attacks, spam, and phishing attempts – flagging issues during both design and runtime.
This proactive security layer, combined with the built-in code security scanning feature, means we can identify and remediate vulnerabilities earlier in the development lifecycle. For Penetration Tested, IRAP assessed environments and ISM compliant solutions, these capabilities provide an additional defence layer that complements existing WAF configurations.
Building on the version control capabilities introduced in Wave 1, Wave 2 adds real-time debugging within flow branches. This means our team can troubleshoot condition logic, identify unexpected paths, and trace errors directly during execution—no more guessing which branch caused the failure.
Combined with custom action naming (allowing descriptive labels on flow actions), complex automation workflows become more maintainable and easier to hand over between team members. For our App-Ops practice, this translates to faster incident resolution and reduced development time.
Power Automate’s new Intelligent Approvals feature analyses historical approval patterns and business context to suggest decisions automatically. Rather than manually reviewing every request, approvers get AI-driven recommendations that consider past decisions, business rules, and contextual factors.
Generative Actions take this further by suggesting logical next steps within workflows based on context—think automatic contract processing with intelligent document understanding, or approval routing that adapts based on request content. For clients with high-volume approval processes, this can dramatically reduce processing time while maintaining consistency and audit compliance.
Plan Designer and agent-ready apps
The new Plan Designer allows users to describe business problems in natural language, and AI agent teams build complete solutions including apps, agents, and Power BI reports. While this is incredibly powerful, we’re strategically testing it thoroughly before recommending for production use cases. The potential for rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development is enormous.
Computer-use capabilities in Copilot Studio
The ability to automate legacy desktop and web applications by simulating human interactions (clicks & keystrokes) opens possibilities for clients with systems that lack modern APIs. This is a game-changer for government agencies dealing with older line-of-business applications.
Dataverse MCP Server integration
The Model Context Protocol Server enables large language models to act on real-time enterprise data in Dataverse. This positions Power Platform as the foundation for truly intelligent, data-grounded AI agents rather than generic chatbots.
The October 2025 release wave represents Microsoft’s most significant pivot toward AI-native development in Power Platform’s history. The features aren’t just incremental improvements—they’re fundamental shifts in how we build, manage, and secure enterprise solutions.
For our App-Ops team, the governance enhancements, debugging capabilities, and security features provide the control and visibility needed to manage increasingly complex AI-driven environments. For our delivery teams, the Copilot integrations and intelligent automation features dramatically reduce development time while maintaining quality.
Please note that preview features may be subject to change before general availability.
